Send My Regards
This is Glasgow's death metal band, Send My Regards, first gig with new vocalist Andy. Not a lot can be said about the quintet. They're lack of movement on stage makes their set a less interesting. Also the fact that they have no pedals means the quality coming from the amps is dire. Their vocalist milks the crowd a little too much while the rest of the members stand transfixed to their instruments, occasionally making an effort for some movement. The music itself isn't too bad. Although the bad sound quality, SMR show most people what technical death metal is all about. Blasting drums and technical riffs and solos makes sure of this. But of course we've heard it all before and its impossible to find some originality within their music. Lets hope their newer stuff isn't as cliche'd or monotonous.
Seven Years of Tragedy
Seven Years of Tragedy are favourites at these local gigs for getting the crowd going. This Glasgow deathcore 5-piece impressed many people tonight with their cover songs as well as there own stuff. Vocalist, Baden knows how to get a crowd going, as he tries to crowd surf in this small venue, and somehow manages to succeed. There fast up beat riffs get the floor moving and their heavy beatdowns are enough to enduce a few hardcore pits. Again there blasts and technical riffs help show the crowd what there all about. A problem with local glasgow bands today is there lack of originality, and 7YOT are no exception. However most of the crowd seemed to enjoy the music and don't stop to think "Have I heard this before?".
NATO
Undoubtedly, the band of the night, NATO managed to show Glasgow what metalcore is all about. All away from cornwall, NATO's set starts off explosively. No critisizm against lack of movement here. NATO are everywhere!!! On stage, off stage, in the pit, on the speakers, on the roof! Although the turn out isn't as good as for the other bands, as most people seem to have gone home, They crowd left go crazy enough to makeup for the lack of numbers. There heavy beatdowns, fast upbeat riffs and catchy melodic choruses get the whole floor moving and singing. It is no wonder NATO are getting as big as they are. "The Last Goodbye" sees the crowd going crazy, and to add to this, the guitarists actually throw their guitars at each other! Clearly the band of the night!
